Continue reading for our advice on moving into a new house during COVID-19.
Check the Latest Government Advice
First of all, it’s important to check the latest government advice on COVID-19 restrictions to see if the area you’re in or moving to is under a local lockdown. This may have a large impact on your moving date and smooth running of the day, so it’s best to keep checking the advice.
On the bright side, homeowners have been able to move properties for a while now, giving removal companies a good amount of time to make sure their processes are safe and running smoothly.
Are Removal Services Running?
Speaking from our own experience, yes! We’re running as usual, just under tighter processes. However, you need to be aware that companies may be running with smaller teams, meaning less availability which may impact your desired moving day.
You can expect small team bubbles and close monitoring of symptoms to ensure the safety of both employees and customers.
If you’re concerned or have any questions, we recommend calling your removals company to discuss what measures they have put in place a minimum of a few days before you’re due to move.
Keeping Safe on the Day
Following government advice, it is recommended you do as much of the packing yourself as possible. To do this, you may wish to get the advice of your removals company to help pack fragile and bulky items.
To prepare for your removals team to transport your items, you should clean the belongings ready to be handled.
With the moving team in your home, make sure doors and windows are open and, of course, stay a minimum of 2 metres away from each other. Make sure there is some hand sanitizer available for everyone to use regularly.
Finally, as much as we love a cup of tea, you should not offer refreshments to the team to minimise cross-contamination.
