What to Do Now

  • The first thing you will need to do is officially confirm the date of your move with your conveyancers and house sellers.
  • If you’re renting, you will need to contact your landlord and give them notice of the exact date you are moving out of the property.
  • Contact your utility suppliers (electricity, gas, phone and broadband) to inform them that you’re moving out. It is a good idea to use this as a chance to check you’re getting the best deals for your utilities too. Take the opportunity to call other utility providers for quotes for your new home and see if your existing provide can match these.
  • Look for a professional domestic removals company online. Check out their reviews, availability and service to ensure that it meets your requirements. If you are based in Ely, Cambridge or the surrounding areas contact the team at DS Movements for a no obligation quote, bespoke to your needs.
  • Have a clear out. Moving properties is the perfect time to go through your old things and decide what’s worth keeping. Getting rid of any unwanted belongings will save you a lot of time and effort for when you move.
  • It’s a great idea to create a list of where all the important things are in your new home including gas and electricity meters, thermostats etc.
  • Create an inventory of the furniture you have that you are taking with you. Then create a shopping list of the items you’ll need for your new property.
  • Label your boxes whilst packing and tick these off your checklist as you go. This will give you peace of mind that you haven’t left anything behind and ensures you know exactly what’s inside each box.
  • Finally, you will need to contact the following people to let them know you’re changing your address:
    • Friends
    • Family
    • Work
    • Bank, insurance, pension and credit card companies
    • TV Licencing

Our top 5 Tips for a Stress-Free House Move

October 12, 2017 | By | One Comment

Moving home can be an incredibly stressful experience whether you are moving across the country or just across the road. Our expert team have compiled their top 5 tips to ensure your move is as smooth as possible.

Book your removal company

As soon as you know your moving date, book your removal company. Take into consideration whether you want a full removal service, where a company will pack and wrap your items for you or if you’re going to do the packing yourself and just require removal and transportation of your items.

Start packing up your least used rooms first

If you have a spare room or garage then start by packing up these rooms first, allow yourself time to have a thorough sort out and use this time to get rid of any unwanted or unused items. This will save you time in the long run as decluttering will mean less moving and unpacking at your new home.

Pack with care

If you are packing fragile items make sure you use plenty of protective wrapping and store these items in strong boxes. It is advisable to write fragile on the box and use arrows to indicate the right way up, as this will prevent it from getting upturned or stacked under much heavier boxes. If you require boxes for your move, most removal companies will be able to supply you with these.

Label

Label each box with its contents and its new destination, this will save time when you get to your new home as you and your removal company will be able to get each box into the correct place much quicker. Labelling will also save you having to rummage through several boxes to find your essential items too.

Keep your documents close by

Keep your important documents such as birth certificates, passports, utility company details, bank records etc with you and keep them together. Do not pack these in the bottom of a box as losing these will create a lot of unnecessary stress.

Looking for a reputable removals company?

Our team at DS Movements provide a full removal service throughout Cambridgeshire. We will come to your home, wrap and pack your things, then carefully move your items onto our van ready for the move. We will then unload your items for you at your new home, minimising any input by yourself. Our reliable team are all experienced and skilled movers and will help to make the process as stress-free and swift as possible.

Contact us today to discuss your removal needs and our team can help start the journey to your new home!

De-Clutter Your Home Once & for All

September 13, 2017 | By | No Comments

We all have house items that we feel should, need or ought to keep but over time these items build up and can cause your home to become cluttered and filled to the brink with items we don’t want.

If you walk around your home and find yourself having to weave around things that you don’t actually like or use, it’s time to start thinking about having a declutter. It’s all too easy to come up with an excuse for holding on to the items in our home, that’s why DS Movements have put together a list of common waste clearance excuses and how to combat them.

Don’t want it to go to Waste

It’s a common reason why people don’t like throwing particular items away because they don’t want to feel as though it’s going to waste. In times like this you have to ask yourself, are you ever going to use it? Do you know anyone else that will use it? If the answer is yes then you have the option of donating to charity, giving to friends or family or selling it. If the answer is no then you’ll be better off recycling to ensure that the materials are not wasted.

It was a Present

Over the years we’re bound to receive presents from Christmas, birthdays and any other events. Unfortunately no matter how lovely the intention, we can end up with presents that we never use, don’t like or just don’t need. In this case, think about how you can use the present in an alternative way. Or perhaps think of someone else that might benefit from the present. If you can’t think of another use it might be time to throw it away. Gifters rarely remember all the presents they have given so there’s no need to feel worried about them looking out for it.

It has Sentimental Value

This is the most common reason we end up with odd items around the house or stored away. If storage has become an issue then take a look at what you’ve kept as a memento throughout the years. Have you kept boxes worth of birthday cards that you’ve forgotten about and who they came from? Or maybe you’ve kept wrappers of something you had to eat on a special night. Organise a memory box that you can keep the special things that mean a lot you so that you wouldn’t be able to replace.

Take a look at the box every year and take out things that don’t have sentimental value anymore. If an item doesn’t bring back a strong happy memory, then you don’t need to keep it. Just because you don’t have a physical object from a person or place doesn’t mean you are erasing it from your memory.

You’ll use it for Something Else

We all have that one room, drawer or cupboard filled with items we’re convinced we can use again or use for something else. If you’re home has now become full of unfinished idea and incomplete projects then it’s time to prioritize exactly what you need. Projects that have taken up space in your home for longer than a couple of months are unlikely to be finished and if they are unfinished or are yet to be started, it’s a sign the urgency and need for the item has gone. In this case, a waste clearance is your best option.

DS Movements provide a professional and efficient waste clearance service in Cambridgeshire to help you de-clutter once and for all. Fill out our contact form today and we’ll get back to you with a quote as soon as possible.

New Year Tidy?

January 18, 2017 | By | No Comments

January is the perfect excuse for a good old clear out, to leave last year behind and start the new year how you mean to go on. The dread of such a big job and the confusion over where we can put our waste can put us off committing to it but DS Movements have years of experience in the industry and our team of experts can get you off to a fresh start.
As a business, using council tips without paying is actually illegal. People may offer cheap ‘tip runs’ but if your waste is found to be illegally ‘tipped’ you as the producer will be liable to this which could result in hefty fines, unwanted bad publicity and a damaged reputation.
DS Movements offer a waste removal service and hold an upper tier waste carrier licence to do so. We only deposit at licensed waste transfer stations giving you peace of mind that you wont be liable for any irresponsible waste disposal.
We can remove all types of non-hazardous waste and where possible will recycle materials to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
Get in touch with us today to find out more about our services or to arrange our waste clearance service with one of our helpful and professional team.
